3/6/12

it's a verb - (30x30)

Refashion (v.) - to remake: make new

The beginning of the year always seems to be the perfect time for starting over.  We resolve to redefine our lives, by redesigning our style, rethinking our choices, or retrying something we've written off in the past.

This year, instead of making a catalog of resolutions that I may or may not make an effort to keep throughout the year, I decided to make a little list of 13 things I'd like to do by the year 2013

Number one on that list? (Successfully) complete a 30 for 30 challenge: Remixing 30 pieces for 30 days, without repeating an outfit. The biggest fear I have going into this challenge isn't the month free of repetition. It isn't all the crazy combinations that might start showing up by the end of the month. Or the rushing that may begin to occur in the mornings, to take outfit pictures, everyday. It isn't what's specified in the title. It's that fine print. It's where it says, "no shopping".

The words send a shiver down my shop-a-holic spine.

Now while I know it isn't mandatory for the challenge, I think it's the best way to tackle my wardrobe with an open mind. There certainly won't be any motivation to continue the challenge throughout the month if I'm constantly picking up cute shoes and tops, that I won't be able to wear for another thirty days. That, and my poor bank account could really use the break from all that (bargain) shopping, that's been wearing it down.

So, here's the deal:
30 outfits in 30 days.

And here are the 30 pieces I'm taking with me for the ride:

5 Tops

3 Tanks

2 Blouses

3 Sweaters

2 Blazers

1 Dress, 1 Skirt

1 Pair of Trousers, 2 Pairs of Jeans, 1 Pair of Dress Pants

1 Pair of Jeggings, 1 Pair of Leggings

3 Pairs of Boots

3 Flats, 1 Pair of Heels, 1 Pair of TOMS

Items that don't count towards the total are anything that I wear on a daily basis (think cami's, underwear, you know.. the usual), or accessories (like handbags, or scarves). Looking back over the list, I realize that color is in short supply.

I've decided to not post my outfits here everyday, because, frankly, we can't have my dinner becoming jealous of my outfits for the limelight. But I will be posting them here every day, so you can see how the challenge is working out!

Wish me luck!!

  1. Such a cool idea! It must take a lot of thought to decide which 30 pieces you'll choose. I think what you came up with is a good mix which will work well together :)

    Good luck!

  5. Oooh, good challenge! I know I'd have a hard time at first, but it'd be pretty fun to see what combinations I come up with. Every now and then I'll end up mixing two or three pieces together that I've had for ages, but never thought to combine. It's a lot like picking up a new outfit out shopping, but so much better because it doesn't cost a thing.
In the meantime, though, I'm having a hard time resisting all the spring fashion that's coming out. Aahhh...
